With two trophies now secured, Liverpool continue the pursuit of a third as they travel south to face Southampton at St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

The Saints were defeated 3-0 against Brentford last time out, while the Reds enjoyed an FA Cup trophy victory against Chelsea on Saturday.

The last two months have not been the finest for Hassenhuttl’s side, though can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they will remain in the Premier League next season.

Though their form continued to slump, as Pontus Jansson, Yoane Wissa and Kristoffer Ajer each scored to secure all three points for Brentford.

Despite the heavy loss, Southampton will fight for another season and begin preparations for August in the top flight though will have to contend with losing star striker Armando Broja next season as he returns to Chelsea.

Both Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel met up at Wembley yet again, as both sides were unable to break the deadlock after 120 minutes despite there being no shortage of chances for either side.

Though when it came to penalties, it was Caesar Azpilicueta and Mason Mount who fell short and handed Liverpool their first FA Cup in 16 years.

The victory was slightly hampered though, as Virgil van Dijk had to come off with an injury along with Mohamed Salah, though both are likely to return in time for the Champions League final.

The Saints won the last match-up with Klopp’s side in the south during their 1-0 victory, though there is much more riding on their match on this occasion.

Team news

Southampton have no new injury concerns to contend as Stuart Armstrong and Fraser Forster look likely to be available for the game.

As for Liverpool, they are without Fabinho who should be fit in time for their European final with Real Madrid along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

It means Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and Curtis Jones could be recalled to fill in for the trio of absentees.

Southampton vs Liverpool – kick off at 7:45pm (UK time) on Tuesday 17th May 2022
