Jamaican international swaps Bundesliga for Premier League
Preparations for the new season continued as goals from Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins gave Aston Villa a 3-0 victory at Bristol City.
But the club are not resting on their laurels with Villa busy in the transfer market again, with a deal agreed for highly rated Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, subject to medical and personal terms.
If it goes through, he will become the club’s third signing of the summer joining Emiliano Buendia and Ashley Young.
The highly rated 23-year-old Jamaica international has made 119 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen, racking up 28 goals along the way.
He’s set to cost around £30 million but with an offer of £100 million being considered from Man City for Jack Grealish, that price tag isn’t a problem. And according to reports in the press, if Grealish leaves Villa Park, Dean Smith will be quick to fill the gap with a move for Norwich’s English midfielder Todd Cantwell.
Elsewhere the club are expected to make a second offer for James Ward-Prowse after Southampton rejected a £25m bid for the midfielder last week. And with the England international having signed a new five-year contract at St Mary’s just 12 months ago, Villa will have to come in much higher.
