West Brom have boosted their chances of Premier League survival as Sam Allardyce’s side picked up a shock 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

The Baggies have now moved closer to Fulham their race to avoid the drop but United’s own chances of staying in the Top Four have taken a hit.

And despite heading into this as outsiders, it was Allardyce’s struggling squad who flew out of the blocks with January signing Mbaye Diagne edging them in front inside two minutes.

Conor Gallagher’s whipped cross caught United flatfooted and the Senegalese hitman got in front of Victor Lindelof to head home.

And it was Baggies that continued to create the better chances before the break as Gallagher’s firm header called David De Gea into action.

But as United fans know, no matter how bleak things may look, they always have Bruno Fernandes to save the day.

And it was the Portuguese star who hauled them level on the stroke of half time as he spectacularly volleyed home Luke Shaw’s cross.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did look to turn the screw after the break as substitute Mason Greenwood drew a fine stop Sam Johnstone.

But despite United’s efforts, it was West Brom that could and should have won it in the final 10 as Diagne got the better of Harry Maguire but De Gea sprang off his line to save a point.
