Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has urged his side to bounce back from Friday's 3-0 defeat to Leeds United when they play Southampton next week.

The summer signing also rued missed chances as Leeds inflicted the Villans’ first defeat in eight games, a run stretching back to last season.

Watkins pointed to captain Jack Grealish having an effort cleared off the line before Leeds went ahead, and insisted the game could have been different had the chance gone in.

Manager Dean Smith was full of praise for Leeds, who took the points thanks to a clinical hat-trick from Patrick Bamford, and said his side could have been beaten by a wider score line.

Villa are next in action on Sunday when they travel to Southampton, hoping to regain the form that has them sitting third in the Premier League after five games.
