Watford have given their survival chances a timely boost thanks to a 2-1 win away at Newcastle.

A pair of Troy Deeney penalties was the difference against Steve Bruce side, as the Hornets move up to six points away from the drop zone.

The visitors got the edge as the first half wore on, and Dwight Gayle’s scrambled finish gave them the lead on 23 minutes.

Newcastle looked to force the issue from there, with Foster called back into action to deny man of moment Allan Saint-Maximin twice before the break.

Watford took advantage of their good fortune after the restart, as Deeney blasted them level from the spot.

Newcastle were not to be deterred however, as Gayle brought another fine stop from Foster.

But, Watford rode their luck again as Deeney was presented with the chance to secure a crucial three points.

And just as he has done so many times the Hornets skipper stepped up to the plate to power home the winner.
