England legend tips Coady for international starting berth

Coady has enjoyed arguably the best week of his professional career this week, scoring his first England goal and captaining his country in the 3-0 win over Wales.

The Liverpudlian was an unused sub in the win over Belgium on Sunday, but with Maguire’s form under scrutiny, Cole has tipped the Wolves captain to be one of the ones pushing for his starting berth.

If Gareth Southgate is to continue with his back three formation, Coady’s experience of the system could be invaluable to the England manager, having played in the same formation for over two years.

Coady will be hoping to reclaim a starting position when England take on Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday night.

Yes the summer is almost over, and the curtain-raiser for next season is already nearly upon us – scheduled for August the 29th. This was being considered as a pilot event to allow a limited number of supporters to attend a football match for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic.

But since similar tests in county cricket and snooker had to be abandoned due to a rise in Covid-19 cases, we believe that the FA are unlikely to press ahead with their plans.

It would have been an opportunity for fans to get a look at our new signing, left back Kostas Tsimikas who you might have seen play against Wolves in the Europa league last week.

And sadly at this stage we don’t know when that is gonna happen. The government announced last month it hoped to be able to allow fans into Premier League games and other sporting events from October 1, subject to coronavirus guidelines. But it remains to be seen whether that will go ahead.

In the meantime, we’ll keep on eye on that news, plus any transfer rumours that pop up. While we’re doing that, you go and enjoy the weather.

The 28-year-old bagged 16 goals and five assists for Ajax in the season just gone, and he plays best on the left-hand side of a front three, meaning Aubameyang will be free to take up his preferred role as a central striker.

Arsenal v Manchester City: FA Cup Semi Final Preview

Wembley Stadium will present an eerie picture, with the national stadium’s 90,000 seats unoccupied for this all-Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester City.

City, the current holders of the trophy, take on the Gunners, who are the most successful club in the competition’s history, with a record 13 titles to their name.

If the prospect of an FA Cup final wasn’t enough for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, the Spaniard will have added incentive to win after his side were embarrassed against his former employers the last time the two teams met a month ago.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola will be buoyed by City’s recent success at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, where the club’s 2-year ban from UEFA competition was overturned.

Not only that, there is the carrot of a potential Manchester derby in the final, with rivals United playing Chelsea in the other half of the draw on Sunday.

Arsenal will be without several first team stars due to injury, with Bernd Leno, Calum Chambers, Gabriel Martinelli and Pablo Mari all sidelined.

Striker Eddie Nketiah also won’t play a part as he serves the final game of a three match suspension picked up after a red card in the Premier League.

For Manchester City, just Sergio Aguero remains on the treatment table, with the veteran striker recovering from a knee issue.

Joao Cancelo is rated 50-50 to be involved after a recent knock, but otherwise Pep Guardiola has a full squad to choose from.

The FA Cup Semi Final between Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley is a 7.45pm kick off on Saturday, July 18.
