Premier League Preview: Arsenal v Chelsea

The Gunners host local rivals Chelsea on Boxing Day and defeat could see them slide right down into the drop zone.

But it’s not all bad news for the Spanish coach ahead of this tie, with club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s return offering a welcome boost.

Swiss international Granit Xhaka is also back for this one but whether or not that’s a good thing remains a conundrum for Arteta.

As for Chelsea, Frank Lampard’s side looked back to their slick best against West Ham and he could go for a largely unchanged line up.

The only real issue for him appears to be at full back with Reece James and Ben Chilwell both out.

Skipper Cesar Azpilicueta is set to keep his place as James’ replacement on the right with Emerson drafted in to cover at left back.

And it’s all good to go under the Tier 4 lights at 5.30pm on Boxing Day at the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea outclass Burnley in 3-0 Premier League win at Turf Moor

The Blues have lost just once this season but goals from Hakim Ziyech, Kurt Zouma and Timo Werner mean they end a run of draws as Burnley’s struggles continue.

The Clarets were the brighter of the two sides in the opening stages as Ashley Barnes wasted a brilliant early chance.

But that proved to be a brief flicker of positivity for Sean Dyche’s team as Nick Pope was quickly called into action to deny Tammy Abraham.

And with the Blues upping the pressure on Dyche’s out of form side, Ziyech netted his first Premier League goal on 27 minutes.

Abraham’s neat pass found him in space inside the box and his deflected strike flew past Pope.

Despite Burnley showing some signs of life after the break their lack of cutting edge meant Chelsea were able to wrestle back control.

But despite Burnley working hard to plug the gaps as Chelsea poured forward, a simple corner found Zouma in space at the back post and he powered a header past Pope.

That goal drained the life from Burnley as a ruthless Chelsea counter attack exposed them for a third goal.

Reece James’ ball forward released Ziyech and he played in Werner to fire home.

Chelsea created chances for a fourth in the final minutes but in the end, it was to be three goals and three points for Lampard.
