Cech retired from football in May 2019 whilst playing for Arsenal before returning to Stamford Bridge in a backroom role.
The 38-year-old, who won the Champions League and four Premier League titles during his playing days at Chelsea, was a shock inclusion in the Blues’ 25-man squad for the 2020/21 season.
The former Czech Republic international has been training regularly with the Chelsea first team and was added to Frank Lampard’s squad as cover in the event of coronavirus.
Cech holds the record for most clean sheets in Premier League history with over 200 top flight shutouts and insists after two months of training he is ready to step in if required.
Speaking to French outlet Telefoot, the goalkeeper said:
‘It’s true that it would have been a professional error to do this if I wasn’t at Premier League level, but that’s not the way we work here. ‘I know I’m 100 per cent ready to help if needs be.
‘Furthermore, I rested for a year without playing football. It really gave me energy, my body recovered after playing 20 years as a professional. If the circumstances put me on the pitch, I’m ready.’
