Torreira tipped for Arsenal exit as Magalhaes completes Gunners move

A move for the Brazilian has been in the pipeline for weeks now, with the Gunners fending off interest from fellow Premier League clubs Everton and Manchester United to secure Gabriel’s signature.

The 22-year-old has penned a long-term deal at the Emirates Stadium that will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2025.

It’s a £25m switch from Ligue 1 side Lille which has been largely thanks to Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu.

The former Gunners midfielder was able to convince his fellow countryman that the Emirates is the place to be for a fresh challenge, according to reports.

Mikel Arteta will no doubt want to further strengthen his squad in order to secure a Champions League finish next season – but of course bringing in new signings means there needs to be some outgoings.

One of those players tipped to depart the club is midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The Uruguay international has been nursing a fractured ankle in recent months after picking up the injury shortly before lockdown in an FA Cup tie with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Sky Sports in Italy are reporting that Fiorentina are ‘desperate’ to bring Torreira back to Serie A, and have submitted an offer to Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has three years left on his contract at the Emirates, and it’s understood the Gunners are yet to respond to Fiorentina’s bid.

Arsenal close in on £27m move for Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes

That’s according to the British newspaper the Daily Mail, who say the 22-year-old Brazilian is soon to become Mikel Arteta’s first summer signing for the Gunners.

The 6’2” centre back has been at the centre of a transfer scramble according to reports, with fellow Premier League clubs Everton and Manchester United rumoured to be interested in the Lille man, along with overseas interest from the likes of Napoli.

However, Arsenal look set to have won the race, with it suggested that the Brazilian is to join compatriot Willian in joining the Gunners this summer.

It is worth noting though that Gabriel will be required to undergo a 14-day period of self-isolation, such are the UK Government’s quarantine rules on those arriving in the country from France.

This could arguably cause a delay in Arsenal’s announcement of the player – but will almost certainly rule him out of training with his new teammates for a while.

Everton chasing Lille defender

The 22-year-old centre back is reported to be Carlo Ancelotti’s prime target in terms of defensive reinforcements, as reported by ESPN.

However, it’s said that Everton will need to pip Manchester United and Napoli to the post for the Brazilian’s signature.

Lille are prepared to sell the defender, and are hoping to pick up around €25m for him should he leave France.

Everton are keen to strengthen at the back, with sporting director Marcel Brands on the hunt for a central defender and a right back this summer.
