Leeds United edge out 1-0 win over Burnley

The Whites were shell shocked at Old Trafford but an early penalty from Patrick Bamford edged out all three points against the Clarets.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team returned to form with a high energy start as Bamford put them ahead after five minutes.

Burnley keeper Nick Pope clattered into him inside the box and the former Chelsea man continued his impressive start to Premier League life and smashed home from the spot.

The hosts continued to dominate from there on as Rodrigo Moreno tested Pope and the England keeper produced an instinctive stop from Jack Harrison.

Sean Dyche’s side did haul themselves into it after the restart with Matt Lowton and Ashley Westwood testing Illan Meslier.

Leeds looked comfortable to bed in the closing stages and eek out the win but Dyche’s side missed a golden chance to nick a point.

Leeds completely failed to clear their lines as Westwood’s cross wormed its way to Jay Rodriguez, but the Burnley fans favourite could only lash over the bar.

Chelsea cruise to 3-1 Premier League win over Leeds United

An impressive performance from Frank Lampard’s side keeps them firmly in the title race thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud, Kurt Zouma and Christian Pulisic.

Despite the final result, it was the visitors that started the brightest, as former Blues forward Patrick Bamford bagged his eight goal of the season.

Kalvin Phillips’ pass caught the Chelsea backline out of position and Bamford kept his cool to tuck past Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea did look to quickly react to that setback as Timo Werner’s deflected onto the bar and Illan Meslier denied Mason Mount.

But the with the traffic all heading in one direction, Giroud hauled the Blues level on the half hour mark.

Reece James delivered a perfect ball into the box and the Frenchman got across his man to finish at the front post.

Both sides showed plenty of drive after the restart with vital missed chances at either end as Raphinha tested Mendy and Werner brought a brilliant stop from Meslier.

But the Blues didn’t have to wait much longer for a second as Zouma escapes his marker to power home Mount’s corner.

That goal seemed to edge the final stages for Chelsea as Meslier was called into action again to deny Giroud and Werner.

And Lampard’s side finally snatched that all important third goal in added time as Captain America Pulisic slid home from Werner’s pull back.

10-man Arsenal draw 0-0 at Leeds United

The Whites were the better side throughout at Elland Road, but despite Nicolas Pepe’s second half red card, Bielsa’s couldn’t force the win.

Leeds had the better of a tight first half, as Raphinha and Mateusz Klich both fired wide and Bernd Leno produced a instinctive stop to deny Patrick Bamford before the break.

The hosts lack of killer instinct meant Arsenal stayed in the game after the restart, but Mikel Arteta’s side shot themselves in the foot on 50 minutes.

Pepe clashed off the ball with Ezgjan Alioski, and after a quick VAR check, Anthony Taylor sent him off for a clear headbutt.

With a man advantage in the final half hour, Leeds did push for a winner, but Leno proved to be a vital barrier for Arteta.

The German produced a huge stop to deny Stuart Dallas on 66 minutes before blocking another effort from substitute Rodrigo.

But as the game began to see saw in the final ten minutes, both sides had chances to win it.

Rodrigo and Bamford were both denied by the woodwork before the anonymous Illan Meslier to deny Bukayo Saka.

But despite the late flurry of chances, this game was destined to stay goalless.

Crystal Palace secure impressive 4-1 Premier League win over Leeds

Leeds have now lost their last three league games, whilst Palace picked up their first home win since the opening day.

It was all one-way traffic in the opening stages as Palace looked to impose themselves from the start.

Andros Townsend and Patrick van Aanholt both fired early tests at Illan Meslier before Palace final broke through on 12 minutes.

Eberechi Eze’s corner outfoxed the Leeds defence and Scott Dann got up highest to power home a header.

And after Leeds’ Patrick Bamford saw his effort ruled out for offside, Palace simply picked up the momentum again to make it 2-0.

Eze was again at the heart of for Roy Hodgson’s side as their new star bent home a superb free kick.

Leeds did manage to hit back before the break though as Bamford finally got his goal as he cushioned home Mateusz Klich’s knock down.

But Palace made the game safe just before half time as the unfortunate Helder Costa diverted Van Aanholt’s cross past Meslier.

With the game began to peter out after the restart, Leeds struggled to spark themselves into life with Jack Harrison’s long ranger their best effort.

And with Leeds unable to break through a stubborn Palace defence, the hosts put the gloss on an unusually potent attacking display as Jordan Ayew calmly tucked home Wilf Zaha’s pass.

Leeds United 1 – 4 Leicester City: Leicester hand out Premier League reality check to Leeds.

First-half goals from Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans, bookended by two poor Patrick Bamford misses, had the Foxes in complete control on a typically wet Yorkshire night.

Leeds have earned many plaudits since their top-flight return and in their previous losses, to Liverpool and Wolves, there were arguments to be made for them deserving something, though the same could not be said here.

Bamford will not be in the Bielsa’s goodbooks after his display infront of goal and it was his tame header on 2 minutes, from just six yards out that allowed Leicester to get ahead in the match early doors.

The Foxes cleared their lines back to Leeds, but Robin Koch’s backpass was off target and short, holding up on the sodden gorund, which allowed Vardy to nip in, tempt keeper Meslier into coming out and tee up Ashely Barnes to finish in an open goal.

It was more Vardy brilliance for the second on 21 minutes too getting to Marc Albrightons cross first with a diving header that Tielemands durly coverted.

Leeds had a chance to pull one back before the break but again Bamford uncharicaristically failed to control Luke Aylings pass when he was clean through and just 12 yards from Kasper Schmeichel’s goal.

Leeds were back in it after the restart after Stuart Dallas’ cross floated into the net but the game was out of sight on on 76 mins despite some good chances for the home side before that point.

Substitute James Maddison sent fellow replacement Cengiz Under clear and he had the presence of mind to stand up a pass for Vardy who did the rest from close to the penalty spot.

It was from the penalty sport that Leicester sealed the win in added time with Tielemans firng in from 12 yards after a VAR awarded penatly after a foul from Klich on Maddison.

Leeds will no doubt take 12th in the table at this stage of the season but Brendon Rodgers will be dreaming of a 2016 repeat as they move up to second and a point of Liverpool at the top.

Leeds United edge out 1-0 Premier League win at Sheffield United

Leeds now have back to back Premier League wins on their return to the top-flight, but Chris Wilder’s misery continues as his losing streak stretches onto three straight games.

Despite the final result, the Blades edged the first half in terms of chances, with Leeds having keeper Illan Meslier to thank for keeping them in it.

The Frenchman produced an instinctive stop from John Lundstrum on the half hour mark, before springing to Leeds’ rescue again just before the break as he tipped away George Baldock’s fierce drive.

However, with Meslier the standout performer in the first 45 minutes, his opposite number Aaron Ramsdale took up the mantle after the break.

The former Bournemouth star had a quiet opening half at Bramall Lane, but the England international rose to the challenge to deny Helder Costa and Bamford just after the restart.

Those chances tipped the balance in Leeds’ favour in the final stages, as Chris Basham was called into action to clear Stuart Dallas’ effort off the line.

But, with the game drifting towards a goalless draw, fans favourite Bamford provided a late sting in the tail.

Rodrigo Moreno did brilliantly to find Jack Harrison out wide, he flashed a cross into the box and Bamford got their first to steal the West Yorkshire bragging rights

Leeds edge out Fulham in a 4-3 Premier League thriller at Elland Road

The Whites picked up where they left off at Liverpool last weekend, as goals from Helder Costa, Mateusz Klich and Patrick Bamford sealed the three points, despite a late fight back from Scott Parker’s team.

Despite having no fans to roar them on a historic day in West Yorkshire, the home side flew out of the blocks, and Costa fired them in front on five minutes.

Kalvin Phillips’ corner was helped on at the front post, and with Fulham unable to clear their lines, Costa bulleted home the loose ball.

Leeds dominated the rest of the first half but were pegged back against the run of play on 34 minutes, as Aleksandar Mitrovic slotted home from the penalty spot.

However, that reprieve didn’t last long for the visitors as Klich confidently tucked home his own spot kick just before the break.

Bielsa side motored on after the restart, as Bamford put them into a quick fire 3-1 lead.

Klich’s through ball split the Fulham defence, and the former Chelsea man strode on and fired netted past Alphonse Areola.

And with Leeds’ confidence flowing all over the pitch, Costa added a brilliant fourth a few minutes later.

Bamford’s hard work hustled Kenny Tete off the ball put wide, and his neat ball found the onrushing Costa to crash home his second of game.

But despite being three goals behind, Fulham refused to lie down and Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s strike hauled them back into it.

Mitrovic then began to cause more and more problems for Leeds, and the Serbian got away from Liam Cooper to power home Tete’s cross.

With the balance of the game now completely swung in their favour, Fulham pushed and pushed for an equaliser in the final 20 minutes.

Neeskens Kebano hit a post as the Cottagers pressed, and Mitrovic forced a fine stop from Illan Meslier, but in the end, Leeds had enough to clinch a first Premier League win more than a decade.

Liverpool showed plenty of drive in attack, but an uncharacteristically wobbly back line will be a real concern for Jurgen Klopp.

Mo Salah got the ball rolling after just three minutes, as the Egyptian international powered home from the penalty spot.

Leeds refused to be overpowered by their hosts however, as Harrison cut in off the left wing to smash a deserved equaliser past Alisson.

Virgil Van Dijk headed Liverpool back in front shortly after, but his poor back pass allowed Bamford to bring Leeds back on level terms.

And with neither side able to keep the back door closed, Salah popped up again to rocket Liverpool into their third first half lead.

Despite falling behind for a third time, Bielsa’s side refused to change their approach after the break, and their high pressing style got them back into it just after the hour.

Klich pounced on a loose ball in midfield, he slipped in Helder Costa, before driving on into the box and powering past Alisson.
