The old Master v Apprentice battle of Gerrard versus Rodgers ended in favour of the former England international this weekend as Aston Villa sealed a 2-1 win over Leicester.
Gerrard was the heartbeat of Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side back in the day but the former England star continued his fine start at Aston Villa with three more Premier League points – this time against Leicester City.
And with both sides looking to make an impact early on it was 1-1 inside the first 20 minutes.
Patson Daka’s work freed Harvey Barnes to steer the Foxes in front before Ezri Konsa nicked home Emi Buendia’s knockdown to level it up.
Villa did look to have edged in front in added time but Jacob Ramsey’s effort was ruled out for a foul on Kasper Schmeichel.
However, the hosts weren’t to be denied in the second 45, as Konsa popped up to forced home John McGinn’s corner.
And both sides had chances to tip the balance late on as Schmeichel bravely denied Ollie Watkins before the redundant Emi Martinez brilliantly sprang into life to deny Barnes.
