Four wins from six games has marked an excellent start for Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa as his charges picked up a 2-0 win away at Norwich.

It was to be the old versus the new in Norfolk, as Gerrard face his predecessor Dean Smith in the opposing dugout, but it was the former England star who had the edge.

Villa looked to exert themselves from the off in this one as John McGinn’s Big Dipper was tipped away by Tim Krul.

But with Norwich struggled to contain the visitors before the break, Jacob Ramsey popped up with a Gerrard-esque opener.

Ollie Watkins’ flick released him on half way and he strode on and on to fire one past Krul.

The Canaries were almost given a Christmas gift after the break, only for Kenny McLean to fluff his lines, and allowed Villa to clinch it.

Carney Chukwuemeka’s speed eased him in behind the home defence and his low cross was arrowed home by Watkins.
