Southampton have driven another nail into Sheffield United’s Premier League coffin as the Saints picked up a 2-0 win in Yorkshire.
Ralph Hasenthuttl’s side eased their own relegation fears with a key three points as goals from James Ward-Prowse and Che Adams ended a nine-game winless streak.
Neither side created anything in a scrappy first 45 as Ward-Prowse buried the game’s one and only early chance.
Blades defender Ethan Ampadu tripped Nathan Tella inside the box and the Saints skipper confidently smashed home from the spot.
With United unable to muster a response after the break, as substitute Adams conjured up a spectacular second.
Stuart Armstrong did brilliantly to recycle a loose ball back to him on the edge of the box and he smacked an unstoppable effort past Aaron Ramsdale.
That goal killed off any chance of a late Blades comeback as Ramsdale kept out Adams twice more to keep the score down.
Full Time from Bramall Lane it’s Sheffield United 0 Southampton 2
