Southampton have finally ended a six-game Premier League losing streak thanks to a battling 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have struggled in 2021 but an excellent defensive display ensured a vital end to the defeats.
It was Thomas Tuchel’s visitors who dominated the opening half hour as they looked to pass Southampton into submission.
And with the Blues unable to make their early dominance count, Southampton swept into a shock lead.
Nathan Redmond’s curved pass released Takumi Minamino in behind and the Liverpool loanee kept his head to swerve home a superb strike.
Chelsea did look to muster a response before the break as Kurt Zouma forced a top stop from Alex McCarthy.
But the Saints plan of sitting deep after the break went in the bin just minutes after the restart as Danny Ings scythed down Mason Mount inside the box, and the England star tucked home from the spot.
However, Southampton stuck to their guns late on, as Yannik Vestergaard nodded against the bar, and Reece James fired over, as the hosts dug in for a huge point.
