Holders Arsenal are out of this season’s FA Cup as Mikel Arteta’s side slumped to a 1-0 loss at Southampton.

The Gunners boss opted to rotate his options for the trip to the south coast but his changed team were unable to rouse themselves at St. Mary’s.

Both sides did create early chances in a busy opening with Che Adams testing Bernd Leno and Fraser Forster denying Gabriel Martinelli.

But despite neither side really edging it early on, the Saints were handed a helping hand before the break as Gabriel Magalhaes diverted home Kyle Walker-Peters’ cross.

The visitors did try and force the issue after the restart with Arteta throwing on Thomas Partey and Bukayo Saka.

The returning Eddie Nketiah did force a crucial late stop from Forster but in the end the Gunners limped out as the Saints power on.
