As fairy tale endings go is doesn’t get much better for Sergio Aguero as the Manchester City icon signed off from English football with brace off bench off the bench as Pep Guardiola’s side battered Everton 5-0 on the final day.
Guardiola will now head to Porto with a first league win at Etihad in over two months as first half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus set his side right on route in Manchester.
De Bruyne got the party started for the Pep on 12 minutes as he confidently stepped inside to curl home Riyad Mahrez’s pass.
And the Belgian showed his full range of tricks just a few minutes later as Jesus raced onto his clipped through ball and he kept his head to fire past Jordan Pickford.
However, despite struggling to get any foothold in the game before the break, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were handed a lifeline as Richarlison tumbled inside the box.
But the opportunity was wasted as Gylfi Sigurdsson’s spot kick was kept by Ederson.
And with Everton wildly off the pace again after the restart City star Phil Foden weaved past two tackles inside the box and buried one past Pickford.
But on day dominated by big stories across the Premier League there was still time for Aguero to grab every headline in the closing stages.
Pep threw the Argentinian on for cameo in the final 20 and the veteran star pounced on mistake in the Everton midfield and he stepped on to steer home a superb finish.
And there was even time for one last moment of Aguero as he got on the end of Fernandinho’s looping cross to allow the Etihad crowd to the famous shout of AGUERO one last time.
Full Time from the Etihad Stadium it’s Manchester City 5 Everton 0
