Steven Gerrard faces his former side as Liverpool travel to the Midlands to face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Tuesday

Steven Gerrard faces his former side as Liverpool travel to the Midlands to face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Tuesday.

The Villains won 3-1 against relegation battlers Burnley last time out, while Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a 1-1 draw against Tottenham.

Aston Villa

It’s now back-to-back wins for Villa following their victories over Norwich City and Burnley following a poor run of form in April.

Michael Jackson’s failed to prove he is the King of the Drop after Danny Ings, Emiliano Buendia and Ollie Watkins dampened their relegation hopes with just three games to play.

Gerrard’s side have conceded just once in their last three games and lie in 11th position, with the prospect of potentially securing a top ten finish should they win their two games in hand.

Liverpool

It was a bitter pill to swallow for Jurgen Klopp as his side choked at home against a Spurs side which led to the German having plenty say following the full-time result.

It was Son Hueng-min who scored his 20th Premier League goal of the season to put Tottenham into the lead, though new boy Luis Diaz got the home side back into the game following a heavily deflected strike.

Despite a late chance for Spurs to win the game, both sides had to settle for point which saw Manchester City now go three points clear with just three games to play.

Team news

Aston Villa have no new concerns though Jacob Ramsey may be a doubt for the contest after sustaining a groin injury in their last game.

Former Liverpool player Phillippe Coutinho will be fit to face his previous side.

As for Klopp’s side, he will look to make some slight rotations ahead of the FA Cup final at the weekend, with Diogo Jota and Naby Keita likely to come back into the side.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool – kick off at 8pm (UK time) on Tuesday 10th May 2022
