Chelsea can confirm a 3rd place finish in this seasons Premier League if they avoid defeat to already-relegated Watford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea have seemingly limped towards the finish line this season in what has been a turbulent campaign in West London.

Issues regarding the club’s ownership are still yet to be resolved with the government-set deadline to find a new owner set to expire on 31st May.

Todd Boehly is looking the likeliest to take the reins at Chelsea, with the American businessman in attendance for Wednesdays game with Leicester.

Off-field uncertainty has been well managed by head coach Thomas Tuchel whose side reached both domestic cup finals, both times losing on penalties to Liverpool.

Interestingly, Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen refused to play in last weekend’s FA Cup final, with it believed he did not wish to jeopardise an imminent move to Barcelona.

Fellow defender Antonio Rudiger is also to depart the club for Spain with Sunday set to be his last appearance as a Chelsea player before joining Real Madrid.

For Watford, manager Roy Hodgson will take charge of the club for the final time having overseen the Hornets’ relegation back to the Championship.

Hodgson is the 3rd Watford manager this term after Xisco Munoz and Claudio Ranieri but will make way for Former Forest Green Rovers boss Rob Edwards who will take on the role from next season.

In his final press conference, the former England boss suggested that Watford will be hungry to beat Chelsea as to avoid finishing rock-bottom of the Premier League standings.

There are question marks over which players will remain at Vicarage Road next season with Watford in the Championship, and some players may have already turned out for the club for the final time with as many as 11 first team players doubtful for the game with Chelsea.

As for the Blues, Tuchel may be missing Mateo Kovacic and Timo Werner through injury whilst Andreas Christensen may continue to rule himself out of contention.

Chelsea v Watford is at 4pm on Sunday 22nd May.
