Southampton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League Sunday lunchtime.
Both sides didn’t get off to the desired start in their opening fixtures last weekend and will be hoping to get their first Premier League points on the board.
Southampton were undone by Crystal Palace, leading manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to lament the fitness of his players, placing the blame on a truncated pre-season period.
For Spurs it was a similar story, with boss Jose Mourinho even going as far as to brand his players as lazy after their opening day defeat at home to Everton.
Saints fans may be slightly concerned at the club’s lack of transfer activity, with just Real Valladolid’s Mohammed Salisu pitching up at St Mary’s, although he will be subjected to a late fitness test ahead of the game.
Spurs supporters will no doubt be more buoyant with their business though following the capture of Real Madrid duo Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale.
Club legend Bale has signed on a season-long loan deal but is unlikely to be available in time to feature against another of his former employers in Southampton.
There may also be a bit of tension at board level between the two sides, with rumoured interest from Tottenham in Saints’ star man Danny Ings, who the South Coast club insist is not for sale.
Nathan Redmond and Stuart Armstrong are expected absentees for Ralph Hasenhuttl, who otherwise has a clean bill of health to choose from.
For Jose Mourinho, only Japhet Tanganga is a definite absentee, with Serge Aurier rated 50-50 to feature at St Mary’s.
Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur is a 1200 kick off on Sunday, 20th September.
