Beleaguered Burnley make the trip to St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon to take on Southampton in the Premier League.

Burnley sit 18th in the standings after 8 games and remain one of just three teams in the division yet to pick up a first victory of the season as they face Southampton.

Until last weekend, Southampton were also yet to win in the league this term, but a much-needed 1-0 triumph at home to Leeds secured 3 vital points for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

It took Sean Dyche’s side 8 attempts to win their first Premier League game last season enroute to a 17th placed finish, just one spot above the relegation zone.

They will take at least 9 attempts this term, although Southampton away is a fixture they’ve enjoyed in recent times.

The Clarets have won two of their last four Premier League games at St Mary’s, although were beaten on the South Coast last term by Saints.

One thing Sean Dyche may be able to call upon in the fight against the drop is experience. With an average age of 29, Burnley have the oldest starting eleven in the top flight.

The squad Dyche takes to Southampton though will be missing Ben Mee who is recovering from coronavirus, but Matej Vydra and Charlie Taylor are believed to be back in contention.

Saints are missing their captain James Ward-Prowse as he continues to serve his suspension after a recent red card against Chelsea, whilst Jack Stephens remains sidelined and Che Adams is doubtful.

Southampton v Burnley is a 3pm kick off on Saturday 23rd October.
