It’s a Yorkshire derby in the Premier League on Sunday as Sheffield United take on Leeds United at Bramall Lane.
Just over 2 years ago, it seemed hard to imagine that this fixture could take place in the top flight, but after a rollercoaster 24 months for both clubs the Blades will host the Whites in the Premier League on Sunday lunchtime.
Sheffield United were the dark horses of last season’s competition, finishing in the top 10 at the end of the campaign despite several tipping them for an immediate return to the Championship.
However, 2020/21 has not got off to the greatest start from a Blades perspective, with the usually solid Sheffield United defence looking unusually leaky – resulting in two defeats from their opening two matches.
For newly promoted Leeds, their 16-year absence from the Premier League has been ended with a host of goals in their games so far, with two 4-3 results – a loss against Champions Liverpool and victory over Fulham respectively.
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa can be confident of the ability of his side to score goals – something which may concern Blades manager Chris Wilder, who will be without the suspended John Egan following his red card last week.
Wilder will also be without striker Lys Mousset, who is out for an unknown period of time with an ankle injury which required an operation.
Leeds have been boosted on the injury front in recent days with the return of influential skipper Liam Cooper to the side – however, Pablo Hernandez and Adam Forshaw will both miss out against Sheffield United with groin issues.
Sheffield United v Leeds United at Bramall Lane is a 1200 kick off on Sunday 27th September.
