Liverpool have returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win at home to relegation battling Aston Villa.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were once again nowhere their full flowing best, but late goals from Sadio Mane and Curtis Jones push Villa closer and closer to relegation.
Neither side created anything in a windy first half on Merseyside, with Douglas Luiz’s pot shot the only notable effort on target in the first 45 minutes.
Villa were the better side at the start of the second half, as Anwar El Ghazi and Jack Grealish brought smart stops from Alisson.
But with Dean Smith’s side doing on the pressing, Liverpool were relying on a moment of magic, and Mane stepped up for the Reds right on cue with 20 minutes to go.
Naby Keita’s smart ball in behind caught the Villa defence cold, and Mane was in like a flash to power past Pepe Reina.
That goal knocked the life out of Villa in the closing stages, and with the visiting defence absent in the closing minutes, substitute Jones took full advantage to fire home his first ever Premier League goal.
