Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard faces a crucial test on Boxing Day as Chelsea head to Villa Park.

Gerrard has impressed in his opening weeks with Aston Villa but he is yet to win against one of the Premier League’s big guns, as they take on Chelsea on Sunday.

However, with Thomas Tuchel picking up just one win in four in the Premier League, the former Liverpool star could sense an opportunity in this one.

Covid-19 continues to be an issue for Gerrard and he will wait on five PCR results before naming his team against the Blues.

However, despite that uncertainty, there is some positivity for Gerrard with key pair Ashley Young and Emi Buendia both passed fit to feature for Villa.

Tuchel sealed a place in the Carabao Cup semis in midweek and the German coach will spin the wheel with his changes.

He is without five players due to Covid but Romelu Lukaku is back, alongside N’Golo Kante, with Danish star Andreas Christensen set to come in to bolster the defence.

Kick off in this one is a 5.30pm start on Boxing Day at Villa Park
