Leeds host Southampton on Tuesday night, as both sides eye a top ten finish
The only midweek Premier League offering comes from Elland Road this Tuesday night, as Leeds United welcome Southampton to Yorkshire for a 6pm kick-off.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be hoping to return to winning ways, having lost their last two league fixtures at the hands of Arsenal and Wolves.
The Whites’ home record has been iffy at best this season, taking just 14 points from a possible 33, although they did beat Crystal Palace on their own patch last time out.
Southampton’s recent slump in form has saw them tumble out of the top half and into this game two points behind Leeds, something not many would have predicted when they beat Liverpool back at the start of January.
That was the last time the Saints tasted victory in the league, but a positive performance against Chelsea at the weekend will instil some confidence in a team that still has eyes on a top ten finish.
Leeds have struggled with injuries all season but now do have options at centre-back. Diego Llorente returned to the squad for the 1-0 defeat to Wolves but was an unused sub, and he could replace Pascal Struijk alongside Liam Cooper in defence.
Robin Koch, Ian Poveda, Gaetano Berardi, and Adam Forshaw are all definitely missing, while Kalvin Phillips was hoping to be back available but Bielsa confirmed he won’t recover from a calf injury in time.
Southampton have been plagued by injuries all season but are starting to get the majority of their squad back. Jannik Vestergaard’s return to fitness has been a big boost, but fellow defender Kyle Walker-Peters will remain sidelined for the trip to Yorkshire.
Also missing are Theo Walcott, Ibrahima Diallo, Will Smallbone and Michael Obafemi, while Stuart Armstrong will face a late fitness test.
A win for Leeds would take them above Arsenal into 10th, while a win for Saints would see them leapfrog the Whites and go level with Wolves in 11th.
Leeds take on Southampton at Elland Road on Tuesday, February 23rd. Kick-off is at 6pm.
