Chelsea welcome Sheffield United to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Wilder’s Blades are still searching for their first league win of the new season, having accrued just a single point from their 7 matches so far.

A 1-1 draw with Fulham was where that point came from, with the poor start to the campaign meaning United are currently occupying the relegation zone.

As for Chelsea, their form seems to have taken a turn for the better, with a 3-0 victory over Rennes in the Champions League midweek at Stamford Bridge extending their unbeaten run to 7 games – even more if you consider their Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham was via the means of a penalty shootout.

To make matters even more pleasing for manager Frank Lampard, the victory over the French club represented the Blues’ 5th consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, something which hasn’t been done at Chelsea for a decade.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United’s surprise package credentials of last season seem to have disappeared, with their rocksteady back line more porous this time around.

This is no doubt due to injuries to key players such as Jack O’Connell and John Fleck, both of whom are expected absentees against Chelsea.

No side has collected fewer points in behind-closed-doors Premier League games than the Blades, such has been the effect of the lack of supporters in stadiums to Chris Wilder’s side.

Sheffield United will also have to cope without forward Lys Mousset against Chelsea, who is ruled out until the beginning of December with an ankle injury.

On the injury front for Chelsea, Christian Pulisic will be assessed after suffering a tight hamstring against Manchester United – he missed the Champions League game with Rennes but is expected to be back in contention here.

New signing Kai Havertz was also absent midweek due to a positive coronavirus test – the German will undergo the mandatory period of self-isolation.

Chelsea versus Sheffield United kicks off at 5.30pm on Saturday 7th November.
