Burnley look to build on their remarkable win over Liverpool last time out when they welcome an impressive Aston Villa side to Turf Moor on Wednesday.

The Clarets ended Liverpool’s exceptional unbeaten home Premier League run at Anfield last week, with Ashley Barnes’ penalty securing a 1-0 win.

It was the first time Liverpool had lost at home in the top flight for more than three years, a result which ended in Jurgen Klopp’s side dropping to 4th in the table.

To compound a miserable week for the Reds’ boss, Liverpool also lost to bitterest rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup at the weekend.

For Sean Dyche, his Burnley side have shown significant improvement of late, enough to give him confidence that his team can avoid relegation this season.

Aston Villa meanwhile, have put last season’s relegation worries firmly behind them as they hunt a European finish this campaign.

Dean Smith’s men head into this game 8th in the table, but with two games in hand over the majority of the rest of the division after a recent coronavirus outbreak caused fixtures to be postponed.

Villa are looking to capitalise on their impressive season so far and will hope to have done just that with the signing of Ligue 1 midfielder Morgan Sanson.

The former Marseille man has signed a 4-and-a-half-year deal at Villa Park for an undisclosed fee – his recent arrival means he is unlikely to be involved against Burnley.

Dean Smith will also be without Wesley, who is a long-term absentee and defender Kourtney Hause will also miss out due to an ankle problem.

John McGinn is back in contention again after serving a suspension last time out.

For Burnley, Charlie Taylor and Robbie Brady are rated 50-50 to play against Villa and will likely be put through a late fitness test.

Burnley against Aston Villa is a 6pm kick off on Wednesday 27th January.
