Swansea City's Matt Grimes is interesting Newcastle United this summer, according to reports
Newcastle United are believed to have an interest in Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes, according to reports.
The midfielder was an integral part of the Welsh side’s run to the Championship playoff final, where they were eventually beaten by Brentford.
Grimes caught the eye of Premier League clubs over the course of the campaign though, and Southampton and West Ham are also believed to have taken a closer look at the 25-year-old.
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is keen to strengthen his midfield over the summer, but with just £12m reportedly available to spend, the club could look at loans and deals from the second tier to boost their ranks.
Grimes recorded five goals and four assists in 51 games in all competitions last season, and plays a deep-lying role in midfield, or further advanced in an attacking midfield role, just like Joe Willock used to play for the Magpies last season.
It looks like Willock is staying at Arsenal next term though, so Grimes is a potential option as a replacement, as is Chelsea’s young midfield pair Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour, if loans are preferred.
The Geordies are also believed to be in the mix for Ozan Kabak, whose loan at Liverpool expired at the end of the season, and is likely to be sold by recently relegated Schalke 04 this summer.
With Liverpool signing Ibrahima Konate recently, Kabak won’t return to Anfield, so a move further North could be a possibility.
