The new era at Newcastle has picked up its first Premier League point this weekend as Graeme Jones’ side drew 1-1 away at Crystal Palace.

With eyes of the footballing world still on the Newcastle, Jones’ interim start kicked off with a steady draw in the capital against Crystal Palace.

Palace looked to impose themselves early on, as Belgian star Christian Benteke bulleted a header against the post before centre back Marc Guehi tested Karl Darlow.

And with the wind blowing for Palace again after the break, it was Patrick Vieira’s side who deservedly edged in front.

Tyrick Mitchell’s cross into the box was a peach and Benteke bullied his way through to power past Darlow.

However, with Newcastle seemingly on the ropes late on, the game swung on the hour mark.

The impressive Benteke thumped another towering header against the woodwork before Newcastle sprang to life and equalised.

Matt Ritchie’s corner was kept alive by Emil Krafth inside the box and Callum Wilson slammed home an acrobatic leveller.

Full Time from Selhurst Park it’s Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle
