Steve Bruce's troubles go from bad to worse as star pair sidelined until at least April
Newcastle United have been dealt a massive double injury blow as both Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron have been ruled out until April.
Both players didn’t make it through 90 minutes against Wolves at the weekend, with Almiron coming off at half-time with a knee injury and Saint-Maximin lasting just 18 minutes longer before breaking down with a groin problem.
It was hoped that the injuries weren’t as bad as first feared, but it’s now been confirmed that the pair will both miss the rest of this month.
It’s a huge blow for Steve Bruce, who had started to see the best of Almiron in his favoured number 10 position in recent weeks, as it adds two of his best players to a treatment table that already has Callum Wilson on it.
The striker isn’t due back from a hamstring injury for another few weeks, meaning it could be the start of April before we see all three back in the side. The trio have contributed to over 60% of Newcastle’s goals this season.
With the Magpies just three points above 18th-placed Fulham, the blow couldn’t come at a worse time, and Bruce will be hoping the likes of Ryan Fraser, Dwight Gayle and Joelinton can hit some kind of form.
