Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet could be the first arrival of Newcastle new cash-rich era in 2022.

Newcastle are set to dive into the January market after confirming their takeover by the Saudi Arabian backed Public Investment Fund last week.

Steve Bruce, if he is still at the club, will be handed a war chest to bring the club into the race for Europe in the second half of the campaign.

According to reports from Catalan outlet Diario Sport, Lenglet has emerged as an early option, as Barcelona look to trim their wage bill.

The French international has slipped out of Ronald Koeman’s plans this season and could be available for around £22m.
