Newcastle are rumoured to be eyeing up a move for Arsenal defender William Saliba ahead of the new Premier League season in August.

Magpies boss Steve Bruce has highlighted his back four as a key area to improve in the coming months and Saliba is a surprise emerging option.

According to reports from Football Insider, Bruce has already reached out to Mikel Arteta over the possibility of a deal, with the early signs of a loan to buy deal looking positive.

Saliba is yet to make a single appearance under Arteta after joining the Gunners in 2019.

He was loaned back to St.Etienne, before joining Nice on loan last season.

And with his first team picture still unclear, Arteta is open to a purchase clause of £20m being included in the deal but only if he can bring enough defensive cover to fill the gap at the Emirates Stadium.
