Carlo Ancelotti’s new look Everton side have secured a vital 1-0 opening weekend win at Tottenham.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s second half header was the difference between the two sides in a tight game in North London, with James Rodriguez impressing on his Blues debut.

Spurs carved out the better chances in the first half, with Jordan Pickford saving from Dele Alli and Matt
Doherty, with Richarlison wasting a brilliant chance at the other end.

Everton locked to turn the screw after the break, with Richarlison heading a Rodriguez cross just wide.

With the visitors beginning to take the initiative over Jose Mourinho’s side, it was Calvert-Lewin that found the vital breakthrough.

The England U21 international has been tipped for a big season under Ancelotti, and he did brilliantly to power home Lucas Digne’s free kick.

Both sides had chances in a frantic final ten minutes, with England international Pickford producing a vital late stop to deny Harry Kane.
