Leeds star Kalvin Phillips could be a shock summer transfer target for arch rivals Manchester United according to breaking media reports this morning.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is rumoured to be focused on signing a new defensive midfielder in 2022 but links to Phillips’ England teammate Declan Rice have apparently hit a dead end in recent weeks.
Rice is rumoured to prefer a return to Chelsea in the coming months, if he opts to leave West Ham, and Solskjaer will now have to look elsewhere to solve the position.
According to an exclusive from The Independent, United are prepared for the long haul over Phillips, as Leeds look to hang on to their homegrown hero.
United are set to offer in the region of £50 for the England international, at around £10m less than their valuation of Rice.
However despite the talk of big money offers, the biggest stumbling block could come down to old fashioned rivalry if a Phillips to Manchester United deal were to happen, with the midfielder’s ties to Leeds making a switch to United an act of West Yorkshire treason.
