Manchester United have opted against signing Real Madrid duo Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale as they continue to focus their transfer efforts on Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
Tottenham Hotspur have pipped United to the post for the signature of full back Reguilon, who will link up with ex-Reds boss Jose Mourinho in North London for a €30m fee.
Manchester United were in talks with Real Madrid over a potential transfer, but the Spanish giants’ insistence on buy-back and first refusal clauses in the player’s contract soured the deal.
Some sources claim the buy back clause is a mere €40m, affording just €10m profit to the selling club.
Wales star Gareth Bale is also in line for a move back to former club Spurs, with the 31-year-old evidently unhappy in Madrid.
Much has been made of Bale’s time at the Bernabeu, with manager Zinedine Zidane seeing the winger as surplus to requirements – Real are even willing to pay a chunk of the player’s wages in order to see him leave the club.
Manchester United were offered the chance to secure Gareth Bale, but have decided against it, preferring to save any transfer funds for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
Dortmund have made it crystal clear that Sancho will be staying in Germany beyond the October 5th deadline, insisting the England man is not for sale.
However, Manchester United appear willing to call Dortmund’s bluff, with some reports suggesting Ed Woodward is willing to wait until the final stages of the window in order to force the Bundesliga side to accept an offer for Sancho.
