Another Champions League night and another rescue act from Cristiano Ronaldo as Manchester United clinched their place in the last 16.
Manchester United Interim boss Michael Carrick was forced to survive a storm of pressure from Villarreal on the night but his Portuguese superstar saved the day late on.
With Carrick already under the spotlight, United were indebted to keeper David de Gea for a string of saves either side of the break.
But the late introductions of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford tipped the balance for United as Ronaldo pounced on Geronimo Rulli’s error to edge them in front.
Jadon Sancho’s first United goal wrapped it up late on as United now turn their attentions back to the Premier League.
