Manchester United were forced to settle for a Premier League point in a drab 0-0 draw at home to rivals Chelsea.

Marcus Rashford had the hosts best chance on a rainy night in Manchester but in truth neither side did nearly enough to deserve the win.

Both teams struggled with the conditions in the opening half hour with Bruno Fernandes’ long range strike the only notable effort on target.

United looked to move through the gears before the break and Rashford was inches away from putting them in front.

Juan Mata released the England man in behind the Chelsea defence but Edouard Mendy stayed big to make a crucial stop.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on Edinson Cavani for his United debut after the break and the Uruguayan flashed a shot into the side netting just seconds after coming on.

Rashford did conjour up another speculative chance in the closing minutes but Blues keeper Mendy was there once again to safeguard a point for Frank Lampard.

Full time at Old Trafford it’s Manchester United 0 Chelsea 0
