Manchester City’s Premier League title push has suffered a dent this weekend after Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Southampton.

Manchester City do maintain a 12-point lead overnight but Liverpool’s two games in hand will give them pause for thought in the coming days.

And despite heading into this one as firm favourites, City did look wobbly early on, as an intense Saints took quick advantage.

Kyle Walker-Peters quick one two with Nathan Redmond released the full back in behind and he smartly bolted one past Ederson.

That did zap City into life before the break as Raheem Sterling forced a key stop from Fraser Forster.

But the game began to swing at both ends after the restart as Rodri again tested Forster and Armando Broja nodded against the post.

However, as the tide did eventually begin to turn, it was City who showed their class.

Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick arrowed across the Saints box and Spanish star Aymeric Laporte stole in to power them level on the night.

And that breakthrough opened the City floodgates in the final 20, as De Bruyne battered one off the upright.

But in the end, Southampton dug in for what could be a title decisive point on the South Coast.
