Premier League champions Manchester City shook of potential banana skin at King Power Stadium as they sneaked out a 1-0 win over Leicester.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side looked the brighter in the opening 45 minuntes as a string of Kasper Schmeichel’s stops kept out Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva and Ferran Torres.
But with the defending champions City unable to really click into top gear after the restart, Leicester were unlucky not to edge in front.
Harvey Barnes’ clever header dropped just over Ederson’s cross bar before the evergreen Jamie Vardy’s saw his strike controversially ruled out for offside.
However, with the Foxes unable to turn the screw at the vital time, it was the visitors who made them play with 20 to go.
Joao Cancelo’s speculative drive was deflected in the box by Caglar Soyuncu and Portuguese star Silva pounced on it to bury past Schmeichel.
But despite the away side looking to be on an inevitable cruise control on the final minutes there were chances at both ends in a frantic closing period.
England star Kyle Walker again brought another top class stop from Schmeichel before Ederson reacted superbly to keep out Ademola Lookman.
