Premier League challengers against Premier League holders made for a high stakes cracker in the early kick off at Stamford Bridge.

But on a day that was to carve out minimal chances in the capital, it was Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City that edged out a 1-0 win over Chelsea.

And against the script, neither side created anything resembling a chance before the break, despite City finding themselves bossing possession, before the hosts lost Reece James to injury before the whistle.

Despite no changes from either boss at the interval, it was City who looked to step it up a notch, as Jack Grealish whizzed one past the post before Gabriel Jesus finally edged them in front.

Joao Cancelo’s dragged shot was only half blocked by the Chelsea back line and Jesus did well to bounce off Jorginho and fire home.

And that little burst saw City’s break the barrier as Pep’s men looked to push on for a second.

But Edouard Mendy’s sharp reflexes kept out Grealish before Thiago Silva got back to hack away Jesus’ effort.

Full Time from Stamford Bridge it’s Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City
