Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho deepened the tension after the restart as the title looked to be slipping through City’s grasp.
However, the blue half of Manchester are well used to final day rallies, and the home side dug deep to claim a deserved title.
Substitute Ilkay Gundogan popped up to nod Pep back into the tie before Spanish star Rodri kept his cool to calmly steer City level.
But as news of Liverpool’s lead at Anfield began to filter through it was Gundogan again rose to challenge to keep the Premier League in Manchester.
