No Ronaldo, No Problem for Manchester City as they thump Arsenal 5-0.
Pep Guardiola was pipped by United in their race for Ronaldo in the last 48 hours, but based on their 5-0 drubbing of Arsenal, Pep may now keep his money in his pocket this week.
As expected, defending champions Manchester City were in cruise control from the start in this one as some calamitous Arsenal defending had them two down inside the first quarter.
Gabriel Jesus continued his new role out wide to drift in a cross for Ilkay Gundogan to nod home before Bernardo Silva’s ball sneaked through for Ferran Torres to tap home.
And that dreadful start set the tone for Mikel Arteta before the break as Granit Xhaka’s lunge on Joao Cancelo saw him immediately sent off.
And with Arsenal in pieces before the break, there was even time for Jack Grealish to take a weekend stroll inside the Arsenal box as he laid one off for Jesus to smack a third.
Despite the tie already being over at the break, Pep had not time for settling in the second 45, as City simply picked up the baton.
Rodri stepped inside Calum Chambers to swing a fourth for City on 50 minutes before a ruthless Pep opted to throw on Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez late on.
And with the Arsenal back line already on the bus back to London, Mahrez’s cross dropped in behind Rob Holding, to let Torres power home a fifth.
Full Time from the Etihad Stadium it’s Manchester City 5 Arsenal 0
