Liverpool have forced their way back into the Premier League Top Four as they picked up a last gasp 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
The Reds were aiming to bounce back from midweek defeat in Madrid at Anfield and this win gives them a key advantage over Chelsea and West Ham.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were quick out of the traps in this one with the in form Mo Salah forcing a smart early stop from Emiliano Martinez.
And the Egyptian star could and should have put the hosts in front just after, as he pounced on Tyrone Mings’ clanger at the back, but in the end, his poked effort trickled just wide.
But with Liverpool unable to make that dominance count, Villa sucker punched them just before the break.
John McGinn’s slide pass found Ollie Watkins in space on the edge of the box and Villa’s top scorer this season opened his body up to smash one past Alisson.
But Klopp’s hosts showed real resolve after the restart and Salah hauled them level just before the hour.
Andrew Robertson’s fizzed cross shot was parried out by Martinez and Salah reacted sharply to nod home the rebound.
Klopp threw on Thiago and Sadio Mane to try and tip for them late on and it was the Spaniard who forced the added time clincher.
Martinez did brilliantly to keep out for the former Barcelona man but with the Villa defence stood static, Trent Alexander-Arnold bent home a fantastic finish.
Full Time from Anfield it’s Liverpool 2 Aston Villa 1
