Liverpool have been handed an unexpected boost in their in their battle to sign Brighton defender Ben White.

The Reds have been linked with a move for White, after his eye-catching season on loan at Leeds in 2019-20.

Despite Brighton’s insistence their star asset is not for sale, Liverpool are expected to test their resolve with an offer, and White’s former boss Michael Flynn believes it would be an ideal move.

Flynn managed White during a loan spell at Newport County back in 2017, and he told an interview with TalkSport2 that White would flourish under Pep Lijnders and Jurgen Klopp.

Brighton are set to dig in over White, but an offer in excess of £35m could force the negotiations in Liverpool’s favour.
