Newcastle pulled off an absolute smash and grab result in North London, with a last gasp 1-1 draw at Tottenham

The Magpies failed to register a shot on target until the 97th minute, against an absolutely dominant Spurs.

But with referee Peter Bankes seconds away from blowing the final whistle, he controversially awarded a spot kick, allowing Callum Wilson to smash home.

Spurs were on top right from the word go in this one, as Karl Darlow produced two brilliant saves form Harry Kane inside the first ten minutes.

And with all the pressure on Darlow’s goal in the opening stages, it was only a matter of time before Spurs found a breakthrough.

Kane was at the heart of it again for Jose Mourinho’s side, as he skipped past Issac Hayden and laid it on a plate for Lucas Moura to tap home.

There was no slowing down from Tottenham before the break, as Son Heung-min crashed two efforts against the woodwork and England international Eric Dier headed a corner just wide.

Spurs picked up where they left off after the break, as Darlow provided a one-man barrier denying Moura, Kane and Giovani Lo Celso.

Steve Bruce threw on Jacob Murphy and Andy Carroll to try and haul his side into it late on, but with the Magpies unable to break Spurs’ stranglehold, they were given a huge helping hand in added time.

Carroll’s knock down caught Dier on the arm and after a long VAR check Bankes enraged the hosts by giving the penalty.

With Spurs players incensed by the call, Wilson kept his cool to fire past Hugo Lloris as a livid Kane was given his marching orders by Bankes after the final whistle.
