Does this mean that Smith is poised to take charge?
After the hype and excitement yesterday, it’s emerged that Frank Lampard has dropped out of the running to become the new head coach at Norwich.
It was widely reported that the former England international midfielder had held talks with the Canaries earlier this week.
It’s understood Lampard is just one of a number of candidates, including former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, who was reported to have performed very well although he’s currently on a break in the United States.
Just twenty four hours ago, Lampard was the bookies favourite. It’s unknown whether or not that this puts Dean Smith into pole position, but he’s only had a week out of work as opposed to Lampard, who’s been out of management since last January.
It’s still understood that the club want to announce a new manager before the players return from international break if possible. No doubt whoever does come in will be keen to start work straightaway as they are facing a mammoth uphill task.
It is thought likely that the new manager will take charge of the game against Southampton in a weeks time.
