Aston Villa’s John McGinn has returned to full fitness.

The midfielder’s recovery is timely for Villa as they prepare for the restart of the Premier League.

McGinn fractured his ankle just before Christmas in a 3-1 defeat to Southampton and was close to a return when play was suspended due to Covid-19 on March 13.

The Scot was one of Dean Smith’s standout performers in the Premier League before injury struck, and teammate Tyrone Mings says it’s a boost to have him available again.

Mings said: “I think he is one of the players who, when they are on the team sheet, it affects the mindset of the opposition.

“He is certainly one of those players for us because he brings so much on and off the pitch. It will be good to have him back, for sure.

Aston Villa return to Premier League action against Sheffield United on June 17.

The club currently lie in 19th place, 2 points from safety and with an inferior goal difference to those around them.
