Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has made a winning start to life at Old Trafford as the hosts dug in to secure a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Three points against Crystal Palace stretches Manchester United’s unbeaten run to four games since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the feel good factor back on the red side of Manchester.

Both sides looked set for a dogged battle right from the off in this one with Wilf Zaha and Cristiano Ronaldo carrying the main threat at either end and Bruno Fernandes forcing an early test for Vicente Guaita.

But as the tie struggled to catch fire once again after the break, Rangnick found himself with the unlikely hero of Fred late on.

Alex Telles’ whipped free kick off the bar caused a surge in expectation but it Fred that made the difference.

Mason Greenwood’s cut back found him in space on the edge of the box and he sent the Manchester United supporters wild with brilliant winner.
