Defending Premier League champions Manchester City have taken full advantage of Liverpool’s title slip this weekend as they cruised to a 5-0 win over Newcastle.

Pep Guardiola’s side now end the weekend three points clear of the rivals in an impressive response to their Champions League exit.

And despite some early chances for the Magpies, City quickly clicked into gear, as Raheem Sterling stooped to nudge home Joao Cancelo’s knockdown.

That breakthrough set the tone for City from there on as Aymeric Laporte doubled the advantage before the break.

But any chance of a Newcastle revival was killed off right from the go after the restart as Rodri powered home Kevin De Bruyne’s set piece and Oleksandr Zinchenko tested Martin Dubravka.

Callum Wilson did almost nick one late on, Phil Foden and Sterling made it five in added time.

Full Time from the Etihad Stadium it’s Manchester City 5 Newcastle 0
