FIFA will subsidise Joe Gomez’s Liverpool wages after the defender was injured on international duty with England.

Gomez underwent surgery on a knee injury sustained in a training session with Gareth Southgate’s squad last week.

He is expected to miss the bulk of the Reds season alongside centre back partner Virgil Van Dijk, leaving Jurgen Klopp with a real injury headache to deal with.

However, the club’s case for financial compensation has now been upheld according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

Klopp is likely to dip into the January transfer market to source a temporary replacement with former Watford defender Daryl Janmaat on his list of targets.
