David Luiz is likely to remain at Arsenal, despite the fact his contract expires at the end of the month.

That’s according to his agent Kia Joorabchian, who revealed there is a ‘very high chance’ the Brazilian will stay at the Emirates beyond his current one-year deal.

Arsenal did have an option to extend the 33-year-old’s stay by a further 12 months, but that has since expired.

Luiz has not endeared himself to Arsenal supporters of late, recently commenting with laughing emoji’s on an Instagram post from the official Chelsea account depicting dressing room celebrations after his former club’s 4-1 demolition of the Gunners in last season’s Europa League final.

Joorabchian also dismissed recent reports claiming Luiz cost Arsenal £24m last summer, suggesting the £6m fee paid ‘to intermediaries’ is inaccurate.

The player has in recent times expressed interest in one day returning to Benfica, the club who introduced him to European football, however club president Luis Felipe Vieira has said Luiz’s £120,000 per week wage is an ‘unthinkable’ sum for Benfica to spend.
